Endocrinology
The endocrine system is comprised of glands that produce hormones to help your body achieve "homeostasis," or balance. The endocrine system interacts with all other systems—nervous, reproductive, digestive, respiratory, skeletal, and circulatory. The goal of endocrinology is to restore and maintain a healthy hormone balance in the body to positively affect:
- metabolism
- energy levels
- reproduction
- respiration
- sensory perception
- growth and development
- responses to stress and injury
- healthy aging
Balance is achieved by focusing on the glands and tissues that secrete hormones, and the effect of stress, age, the environment, and genetics on the endocrine system.
