Patients are referred to the Anticoagulation Clinic by their healthcare provider. Typically, patients with these conditions may need anticoagulation services:
- valve replacement (artificial heart valves)
- history of blood clots
- clotting disorders
- increased clotting risk following surgery or medical procedures
- immobility
OMC’s Anticoagulation Clinic provides:
- blood tests to assess clotting time
- heparin shots or Vitamin K (antidotes)
- consultation for those undergoing surgery (or other circumstances when medications should not or cannot be taken, or dosage needs to be reduced)
- information about lifestyle factors affecting medication use
- nurse line
- anticoagulation education.
