Patients are referred to the Anticoagulation Clinic by their healthcare provider. Typically, patients with these conditions may need anticoagulation services:

  • valve replacement (artificial heart valves)
  • history of blood clots
  • clotting disorders
  • increased clotting risk following surgery or medical procedures
  • immobility

OMC’s Anticoagulation Clinic provides:

  • blood tests to assess clotting time
  • heparin shots or Vitamin K (antidotes)
  • consultation for those undergoing surgery (or other circumstances when medications should not or cannot be taken, or dosage needs to be reduced)
  • information about lifestyle factors affecting medication use
  • nurse line
  • anticoagulation education.
